Does teaching MBSR Live Online count for certification?

Hi!

I’m planning to provide MBSR Live Online courses. Most people I know that feel stressed don’t feel that have the time for attending the course. In this way I can make it easier for them, and I will be able also to help more people this way, probably the most stressed ones , more in need of MBSR.

I would like to know if these training courses Live Online count for the 8 MBSRs needed for fulfilling the conditions for certification

Thank you a lot for being there and for the wonderful work you all do to bring Mindfulness to the world.

As online learning becomes as mainstream as mindfulness, there is an
inevitable curiosity about delivering MBSR and other mindfulness programs
online. The Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society
has been exploring this very question, offering MBSR Online Live starting
in Fall of 2016. We’ve had a steep learning curve about the technology
involved, how we might best work with participants during the course with
those challenges, and what effects this new delivery method might be
beneficial for teachers to know. That includes how the online environment
influences existing demands in terms of teacher competency, curriculum
adaptations, best practices, and how that might differ from in-person
teaching.

The CFM is among other things a research institute, and in keeping with
that role and our leadership responsibility in providing the most
comprehensive MBSR teacher education available, we’ve been gathering data
from our online programs and will begin analysis this Summer. It is
expected that will be complete by Fall, and from that we intend to provide
a Best Practices overview of online MBSR teaching, along with more specific
teacher training to ensure the same depth and rigor for online teaching as
we do training teachers for the physical classroom space. While that
process is still unfolding, we are not yet authorizing any online MBSR
programs as accepted for our teacher education pathway beyond those that we
recognize already: our own classes as the process develops. We will be offering
our Common Good Affiliates a specific training for teaching MBSR online,
the better to support their expertise and dissemination of online programs
that are directly tied to the CFM.
