You’ve probably noticed that life is a lot like a crucible – a big
boiling pot of challenges and unforeseen moments continually cooking us
into ripeness. No doubt, life in this pot can be uncomfortable. Yet,
through our direct experience, we also know that dissolution and
reintegration are inevitable aspects of life that enable us to
understand, relate to and perhaps transform, in fundamental ways, our
habitual, conditioned ways of perceiving, thinking and acting, no matter
how “successful” our lives have been.

There are no easy answers to these questions. So instead of just
thinking about them, let’s enter into these questions by practicing
mindfulness, immersing ourselves in poetry, reflecting on our
experiences – body, mind, heart and soul – and listening to one another
as a way of learning to cultivate and integrate mindfulness into our
everyday lives. Together, we‘ll practice becoming more attentive,
focused, steady in the midst of uncertainty, and informed in new ways as
we face the necessity of making informed choices and wise decisions.
Like a river running through the course, we’ll simultaneously explore
what happens for us when we deliberately lend ourselves to the
transformational processes inherent in the call to live our lives,
flourish, and be responsible for what is ours to do.
