July 2017 Shrewsbury Hotel, meals, logistics etc

Hi everyone -

When I took the Mindfulness Tools program last year, the training every was done inside the hotel and it included all three meals.

In the email I received with instructions on registration, payment, and travel details, we’re told that we must stay at The Residence Inn. There’s a few things that aren’t clear to me and I thought other people might have the same questions…

We’re all required to get lodging at The Residence Inn but it looks like the trainings are happening 3 miles away from the hotel. Is that true and if so, are we on our own for making that 3-mile commute each way?

Also, we’re required a mandatory $240 feel for lunches and snacks, which has me wondering… are we on our own for breakfast and dinner or will the hotel we have to stay at be providing this the way the meals were included during the Mindfulness Tools Program last year?

I could be making this more complicated than it needs to be but, especially with this practicum being split across two states… I’m feeling quite overwhelmed with the logistics.

Hi Aaron, these are good questions. I have just emailed CFM to ask about why we would need to stay at the Residence Inn and how we get to and from the CFM. Have you had any clarification from anyone since you posted these questions?

Hello Alex -

I’ve emailed Jackie and posted in the larger thread for this 9-day practicum but haven’t heard anything back yet.

Hi Aaron,
I am wondering If you are feeling like you’ve gotten the info you were looking for? In the last few weeks emails from CFM have come to me and I feel less overwhelmed. However, the logistics and cost of everything still has me a tad uneasy.

How are you as of late?

Hi Carrie,

I think I’ve gotten all the answers I needed. I’m assuming a simple, hot breakfast will be provided at The Residence Inn.

Maureen Titus sent an email out to everyone on May 16 saying there would be a shuttle that picks people up from The Residence Inn/Courtyard Marriott before class.

I still don’t have an answer on what to do about dinners yet.

Yes, it’s definitely an overwhelming adventure, isn’t it! Are you working on MBSR Teacher Certification?

Dear Carrie and Aaron,

So glad you hear your questions are being well answered, and sending you
good wishes in your upcoming training.

The senses of overhwelm and adventure you mentioned, Aaron, seem wise to
notice. It reminded me of something I have been experiencing lately in my
own practice, which I thought you both might find of interest:

I have been noticing the similarities, in the body especially, between
anxiety (usually perceived as negative) and excitement (often known as
positive). For me, each involve fluttering in the stomach, shallow
breathing, and an urge to do something!

Here’s the funny thing I’ve been bringing mindfulness to - my relationship
to those sensations can create either an interpretation of excitement or of
anxiety. It is so clear lately!

If thoughts are saying “I can handle this” I interpret the flutters etc. as
excitement. If thoughts are saying “this is impossible” suddenly some very
similar body sensations begin to feel like anxiety. It is so interesting to
see this… and so develop skill in surfing the waves of experience.

Wishing you well your training adventures,
Eowyn
