Online Mindfulness Training Resources

I thought it might be a good idea to compile a list of online meditation training programs for the clinicians amongst us (and also for the researchers - if, like me, you get asked for recommendations a lot). I’d be very grateful for any additions to this list - perhaps it would be helpful to describe the program in terms of (a) who developed it (b) who the target audience is © the type of training involved and (d) how much it costs…as well as including a web address.

Off the top of my head, here’s a start:

Smiling Mind, developed by “a team of psychologists with expertise in youth and adolescent therapy” (can’t quite work out who), targeted at young people. Provides formal and informal mindfulness practices (age-specific), facilitator guidelines for those who want to run mindfulness groups, and programs/guidelines for the use of mindfulness in sport and corporate settings. It’s free of charge. www.smilingmind.com.au

Headspace, developed by Andy Puddicombe and friends, targeted at the general online community. Provides graduated (i.e. increasing length) mindfulness meditation training, with specific programs targeting relationships, health, and performance. Cost varies on membership level and length of membership; 10-day trial is free. www.headspace.com

Hi Amy :-)

Great thread!

I can add my own online mindfulness training program, it’s in swedish though!

5 weeks program with daily mindfulness and compassion practices (also including gratitude and forgiveness).

Great stuff!
(Although I might be slightly biased in this matter)

Targeted mainly at the student population in Sweden but also people going to gyms and workplaces.

Good resources Amy, Indeed they provide great material

I would like to add one for your reference.

LiveMindfulonline program, an eight week mindfulness on line course, developed by Shamash Alidina, a mindfulness teacher in UK. He is also the author of Mindfulness For Dummies, a well written book on introducing mindfulness.

I did not take this on line course. It seems to be suitable for beginners of mindfulness to experience the eight week program.

This course is free, set up by Dave Potter (Idaho), and self-guided using the materials provided.

It takes 8 weeks. Each week there are recommended practices to do each day and record on work sheets (to be printed out). There are instructions, readings and videos for each week as well. Many of the videos are JKZ.
There are recordings for the guidance for meditations, yoga (which has videos as well) and body scan which can be downloaded. After 7 weeks, you can send in your completed work sheets and get a certificate of completion, after which you can join the Graduate Program of monthly meetings, with the content put online for those unable to get to Idaho.

I am offering my first telecourse starting May 7. I’m calling it Mindfulness and Practical Magic. The core of it will be MBSR but I’m also incorporating mindful self compassion and some other tools around enhancing the mind-body connection. It’s $89. Thanks for allowing me to share it.

Craving to Quit is a program that uses step by step mindfulness training via video, animation and in the moment exercises to help people quit smoking using an app + online community format. It is based on the in-person training that my lab at Yale performed (2x the quit rates!), and is now in clinical trials. If you know anyone that wants to participate in the trial, they can get more information from our UMASS Medical School webpage.
