Zen-Based Lovingkindness at Brown University

Title: Cultivating Boundless Heart through Zen-based Lovingkindness Practice: Heart-Smile Meditation and Its Adaptation in Daily Lives.
Lecturer: Ven. Misan Sunim

Venerable Misan Sunim has practiced Korean Buddhism for forty-four years. He is one of the key teachers who have brought Western science to Korean Buddhist practice. He received a D.Phil in Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford in 1999. After years of Zen practice, he founded Sangdo Meditation Center in Seoul, South Korea in 2006, where he is a residential teacher. He has taught in centers and universities worldwide and worked with many great teachers such as Zen Masters Seo-ong and Seo-am. He has recently created the “Heart-Smile Meditation” (HSM) and founded the Heart-Smile Meditation Research Institute. He is the author of Lectures on Theravada Buddhism and co-author of many books including Compassion, Happiness, and Mind. He has translated Larry Rosenberg’s Breath by Breath and Three Steps to Awakening.
