May I apply for two different Practicums in the same year?

I would like to take the Practicum in July at Omega. I assume registration will be opening soon. But in case I don’t get accepted, I’d be willing to take the Practicum in Ft Lauderdale in April, for which you are currently accepting applications. So I’d like to apply for both. Thoughts on this?
Thank you :)

Hello, Jessica,

Thanks for your question, and for your commitment to taking this training. I can hear this in your question. At this time, we are handling many applications, and so are able to communicate acceptances about 6 weeks prior to the training. We’re working on improving that turnaround time, and for now this is how it is. So your question is a tricky one. You will not have heard about the Omega acceptances by the time you’d be arriving for the Ft. Lauderdale training.

What I can tell you about our recent experience is that all of those who have applied and who meet the stated requirements for our programs have been accepted. Programs are full, and we’re not turning folks away due to space constraints. So my recommendation is that you focus on one program, apply to it, and plan for acceptance to that program, unless you have asked for us to waive any aspect of the pre-requisites for the program. If that is the case, we will need to consider the factors of your request for that waiver. We will contact you if there are any questions about your application.

I hope this is helpful to you.

All the best,
Margaret

Margaret,
Thank you so much for your prompt reply. This is extremely helpful information and based on your recommendation, I will focus my application for the Practicum at Omega, which I much prefer. I have completed two different in-person MBSR courses and I’ll be taking the 5-day silent retreat In Delray Beach, Florida this February (recommended by the CFM website), so that should fulfill all of my pre-requisites, right? Do I need letters of recommendations for the application? I don’t think they’re required, but do they help? My concern about being accepted is it seems that preference might be given to individuals in the medical field. My background is not in medicine or psychology or even social work. This calling came to me through the privledge of seeing the world through the perspective of my young children’s eyes (who better to teach about being in the moment!), which opened the door to my own personal practice. I’ll put all of this in my application and have faith that my true and earnest intention of the importance of sharing this work with the world will shine through.
Thank you again for your help and support.
Jessica :)

Hi, Jessica,

Apologies for the delay, I was away on retreat myself. There is no preference given to particular professions. You need only submit what is requested in the application process. I honor all that is bringing you to this work, and wish you all the best with the training. Our current experience is that we have room enough for those who apply who have the prerequisites completed. So, enjoy!
