Seeking MBSR Teacher Training courses in Europe

Hello ,

I live in Lyon, France and I would like to do the training to become a MBSR Teacher.

If I understand correctly the first step is to do the 8 week online course., but I am unsure of the following steps in the process.

I might be able to travel to Massachusetts to do the course there, or at least part of it. Could you tell me how much of the training would be online, and how much is residential please? Alternatively, are there any partner centers in Europe? I have been in contact with the one in Paris, but I would like to know what other possibilities are open to me here in Europe.

My employer may be funding my course. In order for them to do that, they would require detailed information of the course; dates, length, format, venues, etc. I would also need to present them with a quote for the total course of the course. Would you be able to provide that please?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

Belén

Hello Belen,

Thanks for your inquiry.

Here is the link to the tuition page, which will give you a good idea of
the total cost:

http://www.umassmed.edu/cfm/training/MBSR-Teacher-Education/teacher-education-tuition/

So far, the MBSR course is the only class we are offering online.

The rest of the courses you can find information about here:

http://www.umassmed.edu/cfm/training/MBSR-Teacher-Education/

Upcoming sessions get added when registration for them opens. The best way
to be sure you know about them is to sign up for CFM emails, which you can
do here:

Hope this is helpful.

Another thought on this, Belen:

You may wish to take the 8-week class in person Paris. Anyone listed on the
ADM website would be a good choice.

The ADM is an affiliate of the CFM:
http://www.umassmed.edu/cfm/commongood/commongood-affiliates/
https://mail.umassmed.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=ZuQ65WcdpCJ6wqw-RisdD687nS2c0OJY_mf65VDxVoos-Ky7Aq7UCA..&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.umassmed.edu%2Fcfm%2Fcommongood%2Fcommongood-affiliates%2F
).

Hello Eowyn,

Thank you for the information. I like your suggestion of doing the 8-week initial course in Paris. However, for practical reasons, I think it would be easier for me to do that part of the course online.

I’ve been doing some research and found a member of the ADM France here in Lyon. Although I don’t know if I can do any part of the course with her or if it has to be an official course offered by ADM. What credentials would the teacher in Lyon have to hold to be able to do some of the training with her?

I’ve also been looking at the dates and venues on the different affiliate sites. I think it might be possible for me to do:

  • List item the At your own pace 8-week online course

  • List item the PTI at CFM, Shrewsbury, MA on September 7

However, I am unsure of whether or not it is necessary to do the MBSR in Mind-Body Medicine at this stage. I am not planning on getting certified status this year/yet, but I would like to be able to teach 8-week courses. Am I right in thinking that in order to teach those I would be required to take the two modules above and a 5-day silent retreat?

I would also like to ask you about the retreat. I practice Kundalini Yoga on a regular basis. Would a retreat with my local KY centre be accepted and approved for the purpose of the MBSR Teacher Training?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Belén

Hi Belen,

You can take the Mind Body Medicine Course at any point along the path to
certification, so yes, you are correct about that and it’s relationship to
beginning to teach MBSR. You also correctly listed the courses you need to
complete to begin teaching.

As to the retreat, no, Kundalini yoga retreats are not accepted. Retreats
are required to be silent, teacher-led and have mindfulness practice as
their main emphasis.
Here is the link to our list of retreats and centers that we accept for the
retreat requirement:

Best wishes on your training journey,
Eowyn

Bonjour Belen,

A Paris ?

A bientôt,

Belén

Bonjour Belen,

Hi Marion,

Thanks for your reply. It was very helpful.

I hope you don’t mind if I write in English. It takes me too long to write
in correct French.

I see from your message that you are an ‘Organisme de Formation’. Does that
mean that you can do training under the CPF scheme?

Also, as part of my ‘Congé de Reclassement’ I need to do some ‘enquêtes
metier’. I see that you are already a fully-fledged MBSR teacher/coach.
Could I a send you the questionnaire that I have designed to find out more
about this career path and satisfy my employer’s requirements requirements
please?

Thanks in advance.

A bientôt,

Belén

Hey Belen,
“organisme de formation” means that that MBSR course could be consider like
professionnel training or education. But this education doesn’t deliver a
"diplome" so it’s often refuse like CPF but not always ( like for nurse or
care job). And there is also lot’s of differents budget which can assume
the depens of the course (hospital, private company…)

I agree to respon to your “questionnaire”.

Take care
Marion

Hi Marion,

Thanks so much again for the info and your help.

I’m attaching the questionnaire I mentioned in an earlier message. Thank
you for agreeing to help with that too. Please feel free to give me some
feedback on the questions, the format, etc. If you think that there are
some other Qs I might want to add, or if some of them are not appropriate,
please let me know.

Kind regards,

Belen

Dear Marion,

As discussed in our last email exchange, I’m attaching a questionnaire to
get to know a bit better the job of a MBSR teacher. I’m sorry it took so
long, but the end of the academic year is always busy. I imagine it is the
same for you.

I’m doing this training as part of my Congé de reclassement, so if you know
other MBSR professionals, please do not hesitate to forward
the questionnaire and my email address to them.

Thanks in advance.

Hope to have the opportunity to meet some day.

Kind regards,

Belén
