What graduate degrees qualify me to apply to teach MBSR?

Hi all,

Hope you are all well!

My name is Laura, and I would like to train to become an MBSR teacher. I have two degrees (B.A. and MSc), though neither are in the health care sector. Does this mean that I am ineligible to complete teacher training in UMass?

Slightly confused as to what degree / experience is needed to apply to the teacher training certification course(s).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Laura

Hello,
I have the same question as Laura. I am interested in becoming a certified teacher and am working my way through the 8-wk program and am signed up to attend a 10-day Vipassana retreat in February. I would love to have clear direction on the requirements for certification. Do you every host Q&A webinars for students who wish to become teachers? Either that or to be able to call and speak to a teacher would be so very helpful. After reading the questions posted, it appears that people are excited and eager to progress through the program and become teachers ourselves, but a human element to clarify steps and options along the way is needed.

Hello, Denise and Laura,

Thank you for your questions. I apologize if this is the first you are hearing back from us. We are handling many, many requests for information these days.

The Oasis Institute is seeing applications from people covering a broad array of careers and disciplines. There is no hard standard for type of degree, in order to apply to our teacher training pathway. Once you begin the professional training courses, you are welcome to discuss your education and work/life experience with one of the teachers, to determine what future development plans might serve your teaching, and/or help you to meet the requirements for Certification in Teaching MBSR.

All the best,
Margaret
